Job Summary:

GENERAL ROLE DESCRIPTION:

The Manager, Safety is the functional leader responsible for the development and implementation of policies and plans on Project Safety including International Labour Standards, Logistics, Environmental and Security.  Providing support to the Construction Management team’s scope of work, other Studios including but not limited to PM, AD&E, Shows and Ride. The Safety Manager also collaborates with other parties like Operations, Government Officials, Professional bodies to evaluate and update the relevant programmes of WDI, and vendors’ level of compliance with their contractual obligation to safety.

CORE FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The RI for the development and implementation of Disney’s Standards.
  • Leading a team of safety and environmental professionals to provide directions, advices and guidance to the project team to meet with WDI Standards, Policies and Statutory codes and regulations.
  • Review, grow and develop the Safety team to meet with the business needs of WDI. 
  • Able and willing to make timely feasible decisions independently
  • Responsible Individual to maintain and better the global safety goal of TRIR<1.3
  • Develop, maintain and implement in-house safety and environmental training programmes equivalent to OSHA standards.
  • Liaise with internal and external parties such as Government Officials Professional bodies, operation team and other agencies to plan and monitor regular safety and environmental programmes
  • Review and approve method statements and risk assessment from vendors to ensure hazards are identified and sufficient controls are implemented
  • Provide innovative solutions to vendors to meet with Disney’s stringent requirements
  • Report to Executive Management on Safety related matters and where necessary recommendations on refinement to company practices and standards.
  • Liaise with Disney’s Insurance provider, provide support and participate reviews with auditing agent
  • Peer review to other job sites outside Hong Kong, compile reports with suggestions to abnormalities observed.   
  • Oversee periodic inspections for ensuring compliance with WDI and Statutory procedures and standards
  • Monitors the progress of investigations into unsafe practices, accidents and incidents
  • Review incident reports and corrective actions.  Advise the Contractor of revision for existing procedures
  • Work with Risk Management team to identify loss exposures for the project and develop specific strategies for reducing the likelihood and severity of losses due to property damage, bodily injury to any part and environmental impairment
  • Organize & host monthly safety committee meetings for safety performance review & topic discussion
  • Manage the WDI and Vendors’ safety teams to cover irregular work hours including night works, early shifts, weekends and holidays to ensure works are monitored and carried out in a safe manner.
  • Promote Disney’s Safety culture

QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS

  • Degree holder or above in Occupational Safety & Health, further studies in relevant fields would be an advantage.
  • Registered with the Hong Kong Labor Department as Safety Officer
  • An expert in the Safety field with at least 15 years of relevant experience from Projects and  construction site. Fluent in reporting to executive management in an effective concise manner and able to provide innovative, balanced solution
  • Strong leadership skills and in managing professionals from various backgrounds, experience and cultures.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and projects
  • Solid experience with major building contractors or developers
  • In-depth knowledge of Hong Kong Occupational Safety and Health Regulations and practices
  • Fluent in spoken and written Chinese and English
  • Strong interpersonal skills in articulating good practices to various trades.
