The Show Control Designer provides technical skill and expertise in the development and implementation of concept, design, development, support, and oversight of all show control, networking, automation, motor control, and documentation related to any show system in use by a Disney Live Entertainment produced offering, including stage shows, atmosphere, park-wide systems, or communication backbone.

This casual temporary/seasonal role will report to the Manager-Show Control Design.

What You Will Do

  • Participate in the project’s creative development through the realization of the design intent through the effective execution of the creative process  
  • Develop/execute Show Control Systems designs for live shows and facility infrastructure  
  • Designing cohesive, integrated systems for DLE shows, atmosphere, and park-wide control  
  • Collaboration with internal and external Show Control systems partners and vendors to ensure Disney quality, compatibility, training, and proper documentation of all Show Control services delivered  
  • Develop and/or provide input to project Show Control systems budgets and labor requirements  
  • Create documentation including schematics, life cycle, and recommended maintenance of the system and components  
  • Supervision of local operating crews, contractors, and vendors through installation, test and adjust, programming, and close-out  
  • Functioning as a resource in the maintenance of proper training of operating area Show Control Technicians  
  • Maintaining up-to-date show documentation, Show Control systems R&D design lab, and completion of discipline-specific As-Installed documentation  
  • Specify and procure equipment for the show control systems and oversee the installation, configuration, and programming of the show control systems  
  • Research Show Control systems technologies in support of design efforts and support mock-ups, demonstrations, and presentations, including set-ups and strikes  
  • Conduct ongoing entertainment show quality evaluations of existing entertainment offerings to assist the operating areas in maintaining the original show intent and opening day quality  
  • Stay current with Show Control systems technology and research & development efforts within the entertainment industry, and with various Show Control systems protocol options and requirements  

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Entertainment Industry working in show development and operation of live shows  
  • Ability to work well under pressure with a variety of personalities while maintaining an open and positive perspective that reflects confident professionalism and unconditional dedication to providing consistently superior products and services  
  • Ability to work closely with a Technical Director, all relevant design disciplines, and the Show Control crew to prioritize, organize, instruct, and problem-solve during installation, content integration, and programming  
  • Advanced experience with most Show Control systems, Machine Automation, and/or Computer Networking methods  
  • Familiarity with existing Show Control, Networking platforms, and Network cyber security protocols in use within The Walt Disney Company  
  • Possess advanced comprehension of the functional relationship between Show Control and all other design disciplines and their various protocol options and an advanced understanding of Show Control systems setup and programming  
  • Must be able to read architectural blueprints and interpret electrical drawings, including proficiency with CAD drafting programs, both 2D and 3D  
  • Ability to deliver on a Project’s established scope, schedule, and budget  
  • Commitment to ongoing personal education and growth
  • Strong understanding of current technology and industry standards for all aspects of Show Control design, as applied to live show and facility infrastructure systems  
  • Possess a strong understanding of Show Control Design theory and practice  
  • Ability to work flexible hours - nights, weekends, holidays  
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a passport and corporate credit card for travel  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred 2 years of experience in live show development with The Walt Disney Company  
  • Experience and/or understanding of facility design, engineering, and construction  
  • Preferred working knowledge and understanding of Disney’s heritage and culture  
  • Willingness to travel on domestic and international assignments as needed
  • Fluency in any additional languages is a plus

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Theater Automation, or equivalent experience in the technical aspects of Show Control, Machine Automation, or Computer Networking, with a focus on live show entertainment
