This diverse team – representing a wide variety of disciplines and talents from technical directors, writers, and lighting designers to choreographers, cosmetologists, and music producers – brings magical worlds to life through technical expertise, performance excellence, incomparable ingenuity, unparalleled spectacle… and a dash of pixie dust.
This is a full-time 6-month internship (dates are June 14, 2025, through January 3, 2026).
What You Will Do
The Technical Design intern is responsible to support the execution of projects as directed by a salaried team member, focusing on the design, production, installation, and sustainment phases of work for their designated discipline(s).
Assist with the Theatrical Design and Technical Production department through all phases of development, from initial analysis through sustainment support of multiple projects, and their deliverables, schedules, and budgets, including responsibility for coordinating and producing documentation.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to,
- Supporting Designers and Technical Directors in the execution of their duties for live shows, special events, and facility infrastructure.
- Frequent communication with Theatrical Design and Technical Production leadership to provide project updates, status, and analysis of requirements that might impact schedule/milestones as well as ongoing communication with internal and external partners to see all projects through successful timely completion.
- Coordination of project updates, schedules and reporting tools to track projects and contribute to cost tracking. Coordinates and documents all design reviews for assigned projects.
- Accountable developing and updating discipline specific paperwork as directed.
- Accountable for the development and/or review of proposals and estimating assumptions for the project’s schedule. Coordinates day to day project activities with business owners/stakeholders and other support and technical teams and providing oversight related to established department processes and standards for project teams. Other duties include research and assembly of semi-routine information on projects for Designers and Technical Directors and other senior management as directed in addition to follow up on all show elements to ensure all equipment/labor/services are secured. Position coordinates oversight of project execution with internal / external partners, organizes project updates, and presentations for partners and executives.
- Attend and document site and field acceptance testing reviews as directed. Assist with and document sustainment reviews for entertainment venues. May be called upon to conduct and document design reviews and give infield design direction as the proxy for a DLE Designer or Technical Director.
Basic Qualifications
Experience in the Entertainment Industry working in theatrical design, technical production, show development, and/or operation of live shows/events.
- Proven experience in schedule management and consistent on-time project delivery
- Able to demonstrate creative problem-solving techniques to resolve project issues
- Direct experience in managing key milestones for project success
- Strong knowledge of current department best practices
- Ability to deal with multiple priorities and handle confidential information
- Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to reach across multiple lines of business
- Proven knowledge of the documentation process with the ability to identify end-user needs
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where everything is subject to change
- Ability to provide leadership and work cohesively with the Project Team
- Willing to work any shift including holidays, nights, and weekends
- Highly motivated requiring minimal direction and follow up
- Team player and possess a positive, personable attitude, and a desire to learn
- Extensive experience with special projects, detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills, proven capacity to prioritize, and demonstrated ability to meet established deadlines
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, often under pressure
- Computer proficiency in discipline-specific software, Microsoft Office suite of programs, spreadsheet and presentation software, Outlook, and Internet
- Proven strong analytical and administrative skills
- Proven ability to initiate, organize, and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner
- High School degree or equivalent
Education
- Junior, senior, or graduate student majoring in entertainment, technical theater, technical production or related field
- Understanding of the Walt Disney heritage and culture
Eligibility Requirements & Program Information
- Be enrolled in an accredited college/university, taking at least one class at the time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Possess unrestricted work authorization
- Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or Disney College Program
- Be compliant with The Disney Look appearance guidelines
- Fully available Sunday through Saturday, for the duration of the internship, 40 hours per week
- Able to provide/have reliable transportation to/from work
- Possess a valid US driver’s license and have the ability to operate a company vehicle
- Able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship
- Able to provide own housing for the duration of internship program in Florida

The pay rate for this role in Orlando, FL is $18.75 per hour.
