Job Summary:

The Managing Producer will play a key role in development, management and training strategies for graphics and animations across Sports Production. They will partner with executive leadership teams of sports categories to support graphic and animation strategy, talent development and scheduling, management processes and best practices for their individual sports.

They will work with leadership teams across the department to develop consistent support systems and execution guidelines for production personnel executing graphics. They will also work with leadership to design and maintain a cohesive curriculum to develop our production personnel in graphics support roles.

The Managing Producer role will be responsible for collaborating with the individual sport teams as well as key partners across the business including Creative Studio and Technology to bring connectivity to strategy development, workflows and learnings, and cross-team communication. And the Managing Producer will develop an understanding of long-term business strategy to inform the creation of sustainable graphic and animation packages.

Responsibilities: 

  • Supports the executive leadership team in:
    • Planning and execution of content strategy and production philosophy for insert graphics and animations.
    • Planning of large-scale productions and events specific to graphics and animations.
    • Providing feedback and recommendations on graphics production personnel on assigned sport categories.
    • Enhancing broadcasts with the use of new technology and innovation.
  • Provides graphic and animation support and mentoring for the Producers, Directors, Associate Producers, Content Associates, and Production Assistants of an assigned sports category. 
  • Provides support and input on regular graphics content calls for assigned sport categories.
  • Supports advertising, promotions, and sales guidelines for an assigned sport category. 
  • Collaborates with the Creative Studio and Production teams on insert graphics and animations package needs across assigned sport categories.
  • Facilitates the sharing of best practices across sports categories to help the department grow and evolve systems for training, execution and management of graphics and animations.
  • Develops training modules and curriculum to promote the growth and development of our production personnel.

Qualifications:

  • Established expertise in creating and producing compelling remote sports productions; able to generate and execute remote sports production concepts, from inception to execution with an emphasis on graphics producing. 
  • Strong understanding of the remote sports production processes and the ability to produce high-level sports events.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the management and execution of live event productions.
  • Knowledge of technological advances relative to remote sports productions and a deep understanding of the various production modalities utilized by ESPN. 
  • Understands the technical process in which content is created and delivered to fans and can provide guidance and solutions to problems.
  • Demonstrated success in exercising storyline, content judgment and coverage decisions. 
  • Extensive experience with developing story ideas and concepts to use for remote sports productions. 
  • Capable of making production-related decisions and overseeing their implementation with approval from the executive leadership team.
  • Experience mentoring and providing feedback to production personnel in the areas of graphics, animations, and other content.
  • Minimum of 6 years of practical multimedia production or related progressively complex experience. 
  • Demonstrates strong leadership and collaboration skills to effectively collaborate with various teams.
  • Strong project management skills, with demonstrated success in creating and managing organizational and workflow processes.
  • Ability to adapt and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Has an established knowledge of sports and leagues related to one’s assignment.
  • Has a good understanding of ESPN’s market positioning and strategies. 
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Extensive travel and remote work are expected.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Significant experience line producing or directing live sports events.
  • Significant experience graphics producing live sports events.
  • Experience producing edited content for live events.

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent 

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent
