Job Summary:

The Lead Software Engineer for Disney’s Photo Imaging applies practical knowledge of development and UX to design, develop, test, and implement software solutions that deliver “Magic” to our Guests. As a Lead Software Engineer, you will be working closely with the Technology Manager and Lead Architect to make sure that all solutions are highly scalable, meet corporate standards, created to specification and delivered on time. To achieve this level of success, the Lead Software Engineer is responsible for all day-to-day activities of a team of software developers and QA engineers. They will also take on a mentor role for the more junior members of the team by coaching them in all aspects of best coding practices and industry standard methodologies. The Lead Software Engineer will be expected to deliver complex software development projects independently and working with teams across multiple disciplines in a geographically dispersed organization, including working with vendors. They will also work closely with Product and Design to ensure all requirements are met and all deliverables meet expectations.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Develops application functionality using Angular, Express and Node.js.

  • Prototypes new application features using best practices.

  • Continually increases performance and reliability of applications.

  • Partner with other engineering teams to deliver solutions.

  • Performs code reviews to ensure product and design specifications are met.

  • Owns the day-to-day activities of a team of software and QA engineers.

  • Monitors project activities and reports progress and identifies roadblocks.

  • Develops technical solutions that meet specifications.

  • Assigns component level software development tasks and defect fixes.

  • Designs specific components for projects and develops application specifications.

  • Able to code against multiple technology stacks and perform end-to-end troubleshooting of the team’s solutions.

  • Serves as a high-level technical resource and “go-to” person for the team.

  • Becomes a SME and owner of all projects and applications.

  • Leads efforts around problem analysis and issue resolution.

  • Drives entire projects through solutioning and design to development and continued support.

  • Enforces the team's best practices for simple and not over-complicated solutions.

  • Produces accurate estimates and participates in project planning on behalf of the team.

  • Facilitates scope definition, high-level planning, discovery, and estimation workshops for projects with cross-functional teams.

  • Work with cross discipline teams and functional leads to validate project assumptions and integration points are accurately defined and validated.

  • Confidently lead and drive cross-functional projects through the full delivery life cycle ensuring project is delivered on-time and on-budget.

  • Ensure projects are properly documented and there is a transition to production operations support.

  • Escalate key issues and risks to ensure timely resolution and mitigation

  • Ensure Jira updates are done, and Scrum ceremonies are followed.

  • Ensure deployment artifacts are communicated, and release are executed.

Required Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Info Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience

  • Minimum 7+ years relevant industry experience, experience in agile delivery, UX (both UI and API layers) preferred

  • Strong proven understanding of Angular development technologies and principles, focusing on Express and Restify.

  • Proficient in Angular development.

  • Understanding of Cloud architectures and hosting solutions, AWS preferred.

  • Understanding of Angular, Node.Js, and Express architectures, including Promises.

  • Experience in ngrx/store for state management

  • Experience with task automation and Unit testing.

  • Demonstrated ability to research and learn new technologies.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and find answers to problems without causing project delays.

  • Experience in a matrixed responsibility organization working with multiple Product and Technology Managers.

  • Proven accomplishments with multiple projects running concurrently.

  • Able to lead teams to successful delivery.

  • Able to work both collaboratively and independently while maintaining a high level of productivity.

  • Able to work under tight timelines and high-pressure situations.

  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment and able to juggle, shift gears, and maintain a sense of humor; deliver under extreme deadlines and intense business environment.

  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.

  • Proactive and solution-oriented when managing issues.

  • Self-motivated and Guest focused.

  • Must possess excellent business communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.

  • Exhibit good judgment skills on when to seek guidance and when to escalate risks and issues.

  • Must be open to coaching and guidance.

The hiring range for this position in CA is $145,000.00-$194,400.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
