This role is based on Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay.

As Stingray Facilitator, you will assist in the care of our population of southern stingrays, facilitate informal yet interactive and engaging presentations while demonstrating how to feed stingrays and take part in ensuring our guests participating in Castaway Ray’s Stingray Adventure have an exceptional experience while visiting Castaway Cay.

You will report to: Animal Programs Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the care of our population of southern stingrays
  • Responsible for raw shellfish food preparation
  • Stand, wade, swim, snorkel and work in water, on sand, and in sun for much of the day
  • Take part in a high level of guest interaction while facilitating the feeding of stingrays
  • Provide general cleaning, maintenance support, and physical work to support the stingray program and equipment
  • Check-in pre-registered guests participating in Castaway Ray’s Stingray Adventure
  • Assist guests with walk-up sales and provide information of the stingray program
  • Facilitate an informal yet interactive and engaging presentations and the demonstration on how to feed stingrays
  • Assist guests with stingray feeding
  • Make guests feel comfortable interacting with aquatic marine animals
  • Provide instruction and safety information to guests to support the operation and use of snorkel equipment
  • Clean, sanitize and organize all snorkel equipment
  • Maintain cleanliness of island beach facilities; duties include but are not limited to cleaning division nets in the water, place and clean beach chairs, clean beach with sand sifter, clear seaweed, rake beaches, pick trash, maintain umbrellas on beaches, etc.
  • Prepare animal diets (involves handling seafood and raw shellfish)
  • Feed and train stingrays and assorted marine fish
  • Provide assistance in cleaning and maintaining a flow through fish holding facility/filtration system
  • Don snorkel gear and swim to locate animals checking net integrity and animal health
  • Drive and operate small motorized vehicles

Basic Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in the Bahamas
  • Experience working in position with a high level of customer/guest interaction
  • Experience and/or comfort working with, around, and handling large aquatic animals
  • Comfortable working in ocean water and changing tides
  • Strong swimming/snorkeling skills
  • Comfortable with public speaking and the facilitation of formal and informal group presentations
  • Experience operating/handling small boats
  • SCUBA certification, desired

Additional Information:

This role is based on Disney’s private island in The Bahamas, Castaway Cay.

You must:

  • Be receptive to island life – living and working on a remote island
  • Be willing to follow and perform safety role, emergency responsibilities and associated responsibilities as specified in the Island Safety Plan
  • Be willing to be appreciative of working and living in a multi-cultural environment
  • If applicable, be willing to share a confined cabin with other crew members and appreciative of working and living in a multicultural environment that has strict rules and regulations
