
Social Media Manager – YouTube (National Geographic)
Job Summary:
National Geographic is seeking an experienced manager to oversee strategic and creative social campaigns for Nat Geo titles and editorial content on YouTube. A successful candidate will be responsible for managing the scheduling, planning, agency relationships, and original content production for YouTube. Additionally, they’ll have an eye towards how to best utilize the platform, tell diverse stories, integrate consumer products and affiliates, optimize advertising, and enhance the content on other social platforms.
We are looking for a passionate video strategist who has experience in ideating, creating, and marketing social video/YouTube content as well as managing agencies, internal team relationships and busy timelines. Excelling in this role requires a knowledge of what is trending/current on social [with an eye toward YouTube], an aptitude for developing insights-driven global strategies, a deep and current knowledge of the platform's offerings, how to best utilize influencers, a keen eye for compelling and innovative content and creative, and excellent project management skills. They will also need to be comfortable creating and presenting decks across the team, department and to leadership.
Responsibilities
Channel Management & Optimization
Support management and growth on all YouTube accounts: NatGeo, NatGeoAnimals, NatGeoKids, NatGeo Español.
Manage digital agencies supporting YouTube and other marketing priorities.
Work closely with affiliates and media teams to monetize our content and offerings.
Maintain standard operating procedures, guidelines, and policy documentation for key stakeholders and partners.
Creative Strategy
Advise on, communicate and implement best social media practices and cultural landscape as it pertains to the YouTube platform.
Evolve tactics throughout each campaign/project as new data emerges.
Review, edit and provide feedback for Nat Geo YouTube Original shows.
Partner closely with the development and marketing team to create high impact and conversation-driving Nat Geo YouTube content and campaigns.
Execute sponsorship campaigns and paid media efforts running across brand channels, and contribute to proactive packaging and ideation to increase revenue.
Communication & Collaboration
Communicate YouTube strategy, platform updates, and best practices to peers, leadership, and other internal stakeholders.
Partner with YouTube to identify new opportunities and develop innovative activations.
Collaborate with the broader marketing title teams on talent social training, digital activations and paid media creative, influencer activations etc.
Foster and build excellent working relationships with key internal stakeholders in editorial, communications, marketing, and channel teams across Nat Geo and Disney.
Analysis and Reporting
Develop and own goals and performance metrics for YouTube.
Monitor regularly to understand effectiveness of strategy and creative, making recommendations based on analytics and reporting.
Support finance teams with revenue forecasting, route ad hoc requests and inquiries from centralized data and analytics teams.
Basic Qualifications
5+ years social media experience, with at least 3+ directly managing YouTube channels and content.
Creative, proactive, and independent thinking, with a strong solutions-oriented mindset.
Self-starter with a strong bias for action.
Ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines.
Effective communication skills in both verbal and written form.
Ability to build and manage interpersonal relationships.
Extreme attention to detail.
Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Keynote, PowerPoint and Google Suite.
Proficiency with project management tools, such as Airtable, Asana, etc.
Experience leading creative content development and production.
Experience with social media content management and reporting systems.
The hiring range for this position in Washington D.C. is $91,900 to $126,200 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
