We are building a world-class engineering team to drive this transformation and are seeking a Senior Online Engineer to join our efforts. As a Senior Online Engineer, you will contribute to the development of high-performance, scalable platforms that support Disney’s interactive experiences for a global audience. If you thrive in high-volume, transactional environments and enjoy building robust APIs and infrastructure solutions, this role is for you!

This role can be based remotely in Sweden, Denmark, Finland or Norway.

What You Will Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-volume, transactional software platform infrastructure that is robust, scalable, maintainable, and extendable.

  • Develop platform software design specifications, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and scalability requirements.

  • Create and optimize application programming interfaces (APIs) to meet the data needs of the organization and integrate seamlessly with partner platforms.

  • Write reliable and efficient code capable of handling massive datasets and supporting millions of users worldwide.

  • Solve complex technical challenges, contributing to the continuous improvement of tools, systems, and processes.

  • Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver seamless integrations and ensure robust platform performance.

  • Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and technical excellence within the team.

  • Participate in short- and mid-term strategic planning, contributing to technical designs and supporting project objectives.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven expertise in developing scalable, high-performance platform infrastructure for large-scale applications.

  • Strong proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Go, Rust, Zig, or C#, with a willingness to learn and adopt new technologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement APIs with an extendable architecture, ensuring seamless integration across platforms and services.

  • Experience working on high-concurrency systems optimized for low-latency performance and handling massive datasets.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering practical, reliable solutions to complex challenges.

  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to mentor less experienced engineers while working effectively in a distributed team environment.

  • 5-8 years of progressively complex experience in software development, with a focus on backend engineering for large-scale applications.

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.

Why Disney Digital Entertainment?

  • Be part of an innovative mission to deliver the next generation of Disney’s digital magic to fans around the globe.

  • Collaborate with premier talent to build scalable systems powering Disney’s most iconic franchises, including Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars.

  • Shape the backend systems for a groundbreaking new interactive experience and impact millions of players worldwide.

  • Work in a collaborative, global environment where innovation, creativity, and technical excellence thrive.
