Dry Dock HVAC Manager

About the Role & Team
Under the oversight of the Senior Manager Dry Docks, this role manages the dry dock scope of work for Disney Cruise Line’s fleet’s HVAC work being undertaken during the dry-docking period.
In this role, you will spend approx. half of your time planning and executing HVAC Dry Dock work.
You will be responsible for writing the full, detailed scope of work on designated scope of work for HVAC work during the dry dock, incl. providing specifications to vendor companies for contract bidding quotations. This role requires strong internal alignment, specifically with the operational team (HVAC and Refrigeration Manager (MTO)), for Dry Dock technical work planning.
As our Dry Dock HVAC Manager, you will act commercially minded, e.g. through managing labour and material finances to see that technical dry dock work meet budget requirements.
Additionally, you will be involved in dry dock 3rd party contractor/vendor selection and throughout project delivery, you will be direct third party contractors/vendors supporting dry dock work; Coach contractors to aid in the execution of dry dock business priorities. In addition to vendors/contractors, you will also lead 2 external project managers.
This role is based in Disney Cruise Line’s London Hammersmith office and requires approx. 3 months of global travel per year – incl. full presence during dry dock periods.
What You Will Do
Plan and execute HVAC Dry Dock work
Responsible for writing the full, detailed scope of work on designated scope of work for HVAC work during the dry dock
Provide appropriate documentation, including technical specification for approved scope delivery produce technical product specifications as required, consult with external bodies for compliance and best practice
Provide full breakdown and evaluation of vendor bids quotations to senior leadership
Conduct research into new ideas, products, and upcoming regulatory changes to see that all technical is future proof
Liaise with Operational team, specifically HVAC and Refrigeration Manager (MTO), for Dry Dock technical work planning
Partner with Shipyard, Walt Disney Imagineering, Contracted Vendors, and external Regulatory bodies as required
Manage additional consulting team members engaged for specific tasks
Responsible for effective communication to shipboard leadership on designated Dry Dock technical to be undertaken during the vessels dry-docking period
Liaise with ship's leadership for feedback on project delivery and ongoing support requirements and additional technical support requirements including additional labour, approved scope coordination, and warranty support
Negotiate most advantageous choice of Vendor for contract selection with Quality and Cost prime considerations, in collaboration with our Purchasing and Logistics teams
Manage labour and material finances to see that technical dry dock work meet budget requirements
Oversee and quality assure product delivery and provide consultant and vendor performance feedback/data
Ensure Vendor Safety / Technical entertainment standard is compatible with Disney quality assurance and all Technical Safety implications are considered
Oversee Vendors work through the whole of the process.
Provide monthly and, ad hoc as requested, reports on designated dry dock and project work Provide Quality Assurance with designated approved scope of work through the design, installation, and completion process.
Provide project coordinator with all necessary information on vendor personnel for dry dock.
Accompany vendors onboard whilst undertaking work. Liaise with shipboard leadership on all aspects of safety and work to be undertaken. Oversee work undertaken and see that it is within the contracted design scope of work. Confirm full quality assurance of work undertaken.
See that vendors provide all material safety certification, as fitted drawings and manufacturers manuals where appropriate.
SMS responsibility to uphold the general safety management responsibilities in areas under their control.
Involved in dry dock 3rd party contractor/vendor selection process for areas of responsibility; indirectly influence and direct third-party contractors/vendors supporting dry dock
Required Qualifications & Skills
Management of staff and Third Party Contractors/Vendors
Relevant tertiary HVAC/Refrigeration or related degree or higher national diploma
Significant years sea-going Engineering experience,
Previous Dry Dock experience required with emphasis on Hotel HVAC/Refrigeration undertaken during a vessels dry dock period
Cruise sector technical operations knowledge
Professional qualifications in relevant marine technology
Significant project management experience in a corporate matrix environment
Office Technical Operations and Ship Management experience
Previous financial responsibility for approx. +$1m dry dockings projects
Professional training in marine regulations
Cruise sector technical operations experience
Confident in manage third party contractors and vendors
Ability to build effective professional relationships across different cultures
Ability to quickly establish an internal & external network of marine professionals within a global environment
Flexibility to work with ships in different locations and time zones, Flexibility to work with shore side teams residing in US and UK offices
