
VP, Nontraditional Productions
Job Summary:
The ESPN Sport Production - Vice President Nontraditional Productions (NTP) is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the NTP business and the relationship with ESPN’s conference partners and preferred packagers. They will be the primary point of contact between our Production, Programming, and Operations partners in the various areas they oversee.
The Vice President will be responsible for leading various teams in each area including linear school productions; digital school productions; and packager services. They will be responsible for managing their staff, logistical planning, and oversight. This role will involve driving the content execution strategy for assigned properties, maintaining proficiencies on the latest production trends and technologies, and collaborating with internal stakeholders to expand audience reach and revenue opportunities. In total they will be responsible for executing over 29,000 live event productions across dozens of packaging entities and over 290 school production facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Manage an expansive team of production and technical personnel by providing leadership, guidance, and support to ensure the successful execution of content in the over 10,000 events the NTP team is responsible for annually.
- Manage the production relationship between our 26 Conference partners, their school administrators, and our Programming team to ensure proper execution of their contractually obligated productions on the ESPN platform.
- Oversee the relationship between the linear School Production facilities and ESPN to ensure that both sides are producing content at the highest level and always maximizing the resources available.
- Develop and grow production standards for digital and linear event productions at each school to create uniformity in quality across the network.
- Identify and implement growth opportunities for linear school productions and develop a talent pipeline for ESPN to find the next generation of cast members.
- Works with school production personnel to train and teach the expectations & ESPN production philosophies associated with each sport broadcast
- Develops and grows production standards for both linear and digital productions at each university to create uniformity in quality across all productions
- Oversee the “Packager Services Unit” which is responsible for all packaged events on the ESPN platform that do not fall within a sport silo.
- Works with each sport category Coordinating Producer & management team to help determine budgets for assigned events and/or projects
- Works with programming and sport category VP/CP’s to determine production plan for events.
- Oversees the digital activation of early round NCAA Championships on ESPN+.
- Sets and strategizes long-term goals for the NTP division.
- Develops new and innovative content formats, integrating emerging technologies
- Collaborates with other network executives, conference leadership, and school production groups to align production strategies with business objectives.
Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of school production workflows and technology.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large teams and complex projects, with experience in staffing, budgetary planning, and logistical oversight.
- Demonstrates extensive knowledge of the management and execution of live event productions from school production facilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strategic thinker with a results-oriented mindset, capable of identifying opportunities for growth and driving initiatives to achieve business objectives.
- Ability to innovate and think creatively about how to present sports content in a compelling and unique way.
- Vision for the future of sports broadcasting and understanding how to adapt to changing media landscapes.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively complex-related live sports production experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Has a good understanding of ESPN’s market positioning and strategies.
- Has a high-level knowledge of college sports and college sports history.
- Has extensive knowledge of non-traditional production workflows.

- Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent
